Leonora Carrington

Born April 6, 1917 in Clayton-le-woods, Lancashire, England, died May 25, 2011 in Mexico City. Leonora attended the Chelsea School of Art in London in 1935, for only one year, before she was able to transfer to the Ozenfant Academy in London which she would attend from late 1935 through 1938. She wrote many books, including one about her experiences being locked up in an insane asylum, called Down Below. She moved to Mexico during WWII and become one of a group of important women surrealists in Mexico.
